CLINICAL RESULTS

A woman’s ability to conceive a child reduces with age. As a woman ages, her eggs age with her, diminishing in quantity and quality. As a result it takes longer to conceive and the risk of not being able to get pregnant increases. Also, the risk of miscarriage, and complications in pregnancy and childbirth, increase. The father’s age can also impact on chance of conception, time to pregnancy, risk of miscarriage and the health of the child.

Chances of getting pregnant without IVF

  • Starting at about age 32, a woman’s chances of conceiving decrease gradually but significantly.
  • From age 35, the fertility decline speeds up.
  • By age 40, fertility has fallen by half.
  • At 30, the chance of conceiving per cycle is about 20%. At 40 it’s around 5%.

Chances of getting pregnant with IVF

Maternal age is the single most important prognostic factor for IVF success. Studies that have investigated retrospective data concerning female age and the outcome of IVF show that the chance of pregnancy declines with age and the incidence of pregnancy loss increases.

If you are using your own eggs, on average, the younger you are the higher your chances of success.

If you are using eggs from donor the chances of success are significantly higher as the age of the donor is what matters most; the age of the recipient is also a significant factor for success as the younger the recipient is the higher is the implantation rate and the lower is the misccarriage rate.

In the diagrams provided below you can see our  success rates grouped by age (last update: May 2017).

Positive Blood Test

is the result of the serum beta human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) pregnancy test.

Clinical Pregnancy

progresses to the point of ultrasound confirmation the stage where a gestational sac is seen on ultrasound examination.

Live Birth Rate

also called the Take-Home Baby Rate is the percentage of all cycles that lead to live birth.

The live birth rate is always lower than the pregnancy rate (positive blood test or clinical pregnancy). This is because, just like naturally conceived pregnancies, some assisted pregnancies sadly end in miscarriage or loss.
